1. The module Care of the older person FETAC level 5 is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to provide care for older people in a variety of settings such as a nursing home, daycare centre or hospital for older people. This is an elective module for the Certificate Health Support. DHSXX

To study this module you will have completed a second level school syllabus or the equivalent. Overseas students will be required to show that they have a satisfactory command of written and spoken English. There are no special requirements for this module.

Thegeneral aims of this module:
  • You will demonstrate good work practices in provision of individualized holistic care for older people
  • You will understand the concept of the ageing process
  • Be able to meet the full range of needs of older people in a variety of care settings.
  • Enhance the quality of life of the older person

Four Units comprise this module:

  • The ageing process
  • Working with the older person
  • Caring for the older person with specific needs
  • Care settings

Methods of instruction include:

Theory  (computer-based learning and web-based learning)
