Frequently Asked Questions:

What are assignments?

An assignment is an exercise usually written with specific guidelines set by Daybreak School. The Director of Training gives each student an assignment which can take the form of a case study. It is usually of short duration and the student will include this in a portfolio of work. The assignment should be printed out in paper format AND included in the Electronic Portfolio and put in the Drop Box in the CLE e-learning website.

What is a collection of work?

This is a selection of pieces of work produced by students over the period of their time at Daybreak School. This collection will demonstrate the mastery of skills undertaken in the care facility or nursing home. The Director of Training is responsible for setting guidelines but the student can build up their own collection which will include evidence in a wide range of conditions, such as in the learning environment which will be the nursing home or healthcare facility.

Will I have to take an examination? What type of examination is it?

Yes all students at Daybreak School either are assessed on their work that is their Portfolio of work or do an examination. It is the school’s method of assessing the student’s ability to recall and apply skills, knowledge and understanding within a set period of time (in the classroom at Daybreak).

Examinations may be practical, assessing the mastery of specified practical skills such as patient manual handling or other practical skills relevant to the module the student is taking. The examination can be oral; it can be in an interview-style, for example about details of care required in the nursing home. It can be a one-to-one or in a group. The examination can be theory-based, assessing the candidate’s ability of recall and apply theory, requiring responses to a range of question types, such as objective, short answer, structured, essay etc.  These questions may be answered in different media such as in writing, orally etc. Examinations in the form of interactive projects on the on the elearning website, for example in the Tests and Quizzes  will be used for such examinations.
